Upgrading Oven Burners for Insulated Fibre Board Production

Upgrading Oven Burners for Insulated Fibre Board Production

In collaboration with our joint venture, Seibold + Comtherm, we recently completed a major burner upgrade for a client in the insulated fibre board manufacturing sector. The project involved the installation of 21 new PC Burners for their industrial ovens, replacing outdated and increasingly unreliable burner systems.

The original burners, which had been in service for many years, had become problematic due to the deterioration of essential components. Fabricated parts such as cones, tubes and nozzles had suffered significant wear and tear, rendering the system not only inefficient but also unworkable for maintenance purposes. Many of the key parts had become fragile and were now unserviceable. To add to this, the majority of components were obsolete, making repairs difficult and costly.

Our solution was to provide direct replacements with advanced upgrades that would improve both system reliability and overall process efficiency. The 21 new PC Burners were equipped with Siemens LME control systems, offering superior fault-finding capabilities and streamlining the maintenance process. This advanced control system enhances the operational reliability of the burners by providing real-time diagnostic information, allowing for quicker identification and resolution of any potential issues.

Additionally, new actuators, valves and pressure switches were installed to ensure precise control over the burner operations, leading to an improved combustion process. These enhancements allowed the customer to maintain more consistent oven temperatures, which is critical for the production of high-quality fibre boards.

The primary driver behind the need for this upgrade was the age and deteriorating condition of the existing equipment. The integrity of the old parts had degraded to the point where the system was no longer reliable, resulting in frequent downtime and maintenance challenges. By replacing these components with modern, durable alternatives, we restored the system’s functionality and significantly reduced the likelihood of future breakdowns.

Our customer immediately saw the benefits from the upgrade. With the new burners and control systems in place, they experienced improved burner performance, increased efficiency and reduced maintenance demands. The upgraded system is not only more reliable but also easier to service, ensuring that the production line can continue running smoothly for years to come.

This project highlights the importance of proactive upgrades in industrial systems, especially when components become obsolete or show signs of unreliability. Through the installation of new PC Burners and Siemens LME's, we provided the customer with a more dependable, efficient solution tailored to their specific needs in insulated fibre board production.
