What does RAST mean?

RAST connectors, standing for "Raster Anschluss Steck Technik," are primarily used for signal and power connections employing insulation displacement technology. Initially designed for a maximum of 12 contacts, contemporary variants now accommodate 20 or more. Predominantly used in consumer white goods, these connectors have expanded into automotive systems and other industries due to their suitability for mass production and consistent quality, facilitated by automated assembly processes. RAST connectors are designed for applications with infrequent mating cycles and come in various styles such as wire-to-board, wire-to-wire, and wire-to-panel, featuring insulation displacement or crimp contacts.
